McLean 'PureProfitFour' Karr

Unlike many poker pros, Michigan native McLean Karr didn't dive straight into playing full-time after finishing with education. He first graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy and then worked as an operations management consultant for a period of time before making the transition to poker. His roots came in the online realm, where he began by playing MTTs on PokerStars under the name 'PureProfitFour'. With almost $2,000,000 in online tournament earnings since his entrance to the game in 2006, McLean has won a number of majors including an FTOPS title for $417,000 and the $1,050 Super Tuesday for $76,046.

Also a regular on the live tournament circuit, Karr's breakout year came in 2010. He kicked it off by winning the $10,000 WPT No Limit Hold'em Championship Event for $878,500 – outlasting legends of both the old generation and new one with players such as Phil Hellmuth and Brian Rast losing out to the eventual winner. If a major WPT and almost $1,000,000 in change wasn't enough already, Karr went on to win the EPT £10,000 No Limit Hold'em High Roller Turbo in London for $423,304.

The following year, McLean's continued successes proved that he had more than just luck on his side. This year, he added another WPT title to his collection – this time in the WPT Vienna €10,000 No Limit Hold'em High Roller for $263,201. Over time, it became evident that McLean thrived in high roller environments, for he took down another such tournament in the 2011 HK$100,000 No Limit Hold'em High Roller in Macau. In what could have been one of the more impressive runs in live tournament history, Karr made a WSOP final table this same year in the $10,0000 Pot Limit Hold'em event but unfortunately this time was not able to claim the trophy. Ending the year with two WSOPE in-the-money finishes along with an EPT final table, Karr earned himself over $1,800,000 between 2010 and 2011.
