In one of the strangest turns of events at the 2023 World Series of Poker, a player has been outed as begging for soft play in the hand-to-hand bubble stage of the Main Event after penning a letter to all of his table mates.
Gao, from China, wrote the short letter seen in the tweet below, to beg his opponents to just give him a walk for a single round while he was in the big blind during the bubble and sat with only 3bb.
How could you not help a man out here after reading this?
Gao wrote that the $15,000, or possibly more, would increase his chances of getting into an American University and also enjoying a “dream honeymoon” with his girlfriend.
But as a contentious thread running on 2+2 discussed; is this really in the spirit of the game?
As it happened, Gao got his wish and survived for one more round to make the money in what was easily the biggest poker tournament of his life. After that it was all over after a single double up and he then busted out. No doubt we will see the young man once again in Sin City.
