Dean Hutchison Narrowly Misses Out on Becoming Scotland’s First WSOP Main Event Champion

Dean Hutchison has busted out of the World series of Poker Main Event in sixth place, coming ever so close to becoming Scotland’s first champion. The 37-year-old Glaswegian rocked up to the playing hall with only 35 big blinds, seventh in chips, but was heavily tipped to make a comeback.
The Scot had loud support from the rail — more so than any other player — but it was to no avail. Running low on chips, Hutchison decided to go with his pocket fives only for Jan-Peter Jachtmann to call the call with pocket sevens. The poker gods were not in favour of a reprieve and the Scotsman was on his way home.
It wasn’t all doom and gloom, though, because the $1,800,500 payday was no doubt more than enough to put some shine back onto the day. Hutchison’s career earnings from live tournaments at the start of the day was $723,865 with a biggest prize of $154,000. So, there was still plenty to smile about.
One thing that Hutchison won’t be smiling about is the missed opportunity to become Scotland’s most successful live tournament player, moving ahead of Niall Farrell. Farrell currently sits with a record of $6,693,770 and would have been bumped down to second on the Scottish all time rankings if Hutchison had made the heads-up stage.
As it is, the three Americans who made the final table will be battling between themselves today to see who becomes the 2022 World Series of Poker Main Event champion after a run of four European winners.
